Julius Mode
After you defeat Dawn of Sorrow with Soma, you will unlock Julius Mode. In order to begin this mode, you need to enter JULIUS in the name selection screen. Now you can play through the game as Julius. Not only Julius, but you can aquire the aid of Yoko and Alucard on your travels.
The game itself is basically the same, minus the ability to use Souls. But those are not really needed are they? Each character has sub-weapons at their disposal, and will level up, the same as Soma. The only change in the enemies is the final fight. Rather than going up against Menace, you will be fighting Soma as Dracula. This is a challenge for anyone to complete. Do you think you have what it takes??

Julius Belmont |
Julius Belmont is the first character you gain control of in this mode. He comes complete with his Vampire Killer whip, and the arsenal of sub weapons from Aria of Sorrow minus the dagger. And like so many other Belmonts before him, he is pretty slow moving. (Maybe they are just stealthier rather than slow.)
Julius has the longest range for his weapon, though he does not have the greatest defense. His sub weapons are on par for damage as their Aria counterparts as well. Though Julius is a good overall guy, I still liked one other character better. |
Julius's Sub-Weapons
Axe |
Tossed in a high arcing range. |
Boomerang |
Weapon that goes out from Julius, then returns. |
Cross |
Brins the divine power of the holy cross |
Holy water |
Strikes the floor and burns anything that touches it. |
Yoko Belnades |
Yoko can be found right after the first boss fight. She is located in the same room where she has her shop for Soma. Though Yoko has very sluggish strength, her magical sub-weapons make up for it. Her staff has the smallest range of any of the three. Yoko though has a quicker walking speed of anyone. She is perhaps best left out of boss fights, unless there is an elemental weakness her sub-weapons can exploit. |
Yoko's Sub-Weapons
Fire |
Shoots out a blast of fire in front of Yoko |
Ice |
Shoots shards of ice in multiple directions |
Lightning |
Shoots several balls of lightning that home in on the enemies |
Alucard |
Alucard is the final (And best in my opinion) character to recruit. He is found in the Garden of Madness, where Soma is given Mina's Pendant. He has the best overall stats, though his strength is under Julius, his defense is the highest. Fans of Symphony of the Night will see him and cheer. He is ripped directly out of that title, complete with his Alucard Sword for a weapon. That said, he really lacks in the sub-weapon department. His two should also seem familair. There is the Hellfire spell, that shoots three firballs out from his cape, and the Soul of Bat. This is needed to reach the higher places that the other characters cannot get to. Alucard is still the best! |
Alucard's Sub-Weapons
Soul of Bat |
Alucard can transform into a bat, and go to the higher areas of the castle. |
Hellfire |
The families traditional spell. Three fireballs are shot from Alucards cape. |
